I am a sucker for snail mail. Why I have this reluctancy towards giving it up completely lies in my love taking time to write a proper hand-written letter or creating a the perfect list of items for a care package. That’s what makes it so much fun for me. This is the first year I didn’t mail any Christmas cards out due to my budget, so I’m making up for it by jumping head first into Valentine’s Day cards. I was inspired by all the wedding invitations I’ve seen bloggers make (check out 100 Layer Cake and Elephantine for examples) and knowing that I might some day be doing that as well, I decided to give my first go at homemade cards, but planned to keep it simple.
PROS:
- I purchased nice paper from Michael’s when I was down visiting my parents, which means I put thought into color and design. Big step up from folding a piece of computer paper in half.
- I’m happy that I made every card unique aside from the layout.
- Had extra paper so I could make my parents a special one!
CONS:
- I wish I had glitter or perhaps a heart-shaped hole puncher to fill up a few empty spaces.
- I didn’t have a ruler. What a dumb tool to be missing. Pretty key when it comes to make perfect lines.
- I won’t be able to send these for another week or two-I hate waiting.
Now these may look like the type of card a third grader would make and you’re probably right in that assumption. However this was my first try at homemade cards and I’m happy with how they turned out. I hope to go try harder ones in the future, but for now this is a great start.
